I am confused, tell me

Posted: April 30, 2018 in Uncategorized

I am confused about the situation between Israel and the Palestinians.

On the one hand we hear the left or far left telling us that the Palestinians have been badly treated but on the other hand we hear that the Israelis are constantly attacked by the Palestinians.

I have a left-wing friend who is very much in favour of the Palestinians being given some kind of settlement. It does appear that the people living in the Palestine or occupied territories are feeling very put upon by the Israelis.

On the other hand we hear and see a lot of news about Palestinians attacking Israelis and saying that they should all be killed and swept into the sea. I come from a generation that remembers the Holocaust and the terrible things that were done by the Nazis in Germany in the 30s and 40s as I was a child during that war.

The general opinion of the Islamic peoples is that Jews should be killed and I believe that there is some evidence of this in the Koran.

Personally I do really think that the Islamic religion is a daemonic one not a religion of peace as they say.

What I would like is for people to give me a considered opinion about all of this and tried to convince me that the left wing thinkers are correct, and why.

I am a Christian and I believe that the Bible gives a full and accurate picture of righteous and proper rules of living.

I also believe that all people should be treated with respect and deserve to live peacefully.

Israel and Islam

I’ve been abroad. I met some intelligent and learned Muslims. They told me that, in their book the Koran, it states that Jesus was NOT crucified on a cross, he was taken up into heaven and another was crucified in his place. My response was that without Sacrifice there can be no forgiveness (Salvation) Muslims believe the Old Testament about Abraham and Isaac, the flood, Adam and Eve etc and say they accept that God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, saving him at the last minute with a ‘Substitute’ animal. It astonished me that a Muslim could believe God’s instructions about sacrifices for sin but reject the idea of a final sacrifice by Jesus, which we Christians believe. I feel so sorry for them, lost as they are, without hope and believe that we should urgently pray that they understand the truth about Jesus. You don’t believe it? Think about the millions who do, friends who have had huge changes in their lives because they do believe. Did you know, there are more Christians alive today than the sum of all Christians down the ages? They can’t all be deluded. Also, the Koran cannot explain why the disciples changed suddenly from terrified men and women hiding in locked rooms to shouting their belief out loud in the streets.Nor can it explain the peace enjoyed by millions or the reason that many still go willingly to death because of their faith. ISIS is an example.i’ve copy/pasted this from the internet. You should read it carefully:-

God required animal sacrifices to provide a temporary covering of sins and to foreshadow the perfect and complete sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Leviticus 4:35, 5:10). Animal sacrifice is an important theme found throughout Scripture because “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22). When Adam and Eve sinned, animals were killed by God to provide clothing for them (Genesis 3:21). Cain and Abel brought sacrifices to the Lord. Cain’s was unacceptable because he brought fruit, while Abel’s was acceptable because it was the “firstborn of his flock” (Genesis 4:4-5). After the flood receded, Noah sacrificed animals to God (Genesis 8:20-21).

God commanded the nation of Israel to perform numerous sacrifices according to certain procedures prescribed by God. First, the animal had to be spotless. ( this equates to the best part of ones income today ) Second, the person offering the sacrifice had to identify with the animal ( you couldn’t borrow or steal one )Third, the person offering the animal had to inflict death upon it. When done in faith, this sacrifice provided a temporary covering of sins. Another sacrifice called for on the Day of Atonement, described in Leviticus 16, demonstrates forgiveness and the removal of sin. The high priest was to take two male goats for a sin offering. One of the goats was sacrificed as a sin offering for the people of Israel (Leviticus 16:15), while the other goat was released into the wilderness (Leviticus 16:20-22), (hence the term ‘Scapegoat’). The sin offering provided forgiveness, while the other goat ( The ‘Scapegoat’ ) provided the removal of sin.

Why, then, do we no longer offer animal sacrifices today? Animal sacrifices have ended because Jesus Christ was the ultimate and perfect sacrifice. John the Baptist recognized this when he saw Jesus coming to be baptized and said, “Look, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). You may be asking yourself, why animals? What did they do wrong? That is the point—since the animals did no wrong, they died in place of the one performing the sacrifice. Jesus Christ also did no wrong but willingly gave Himself to die for the sins of mankind (1 Timothy 2:6). Jesus Christ took our sin upon Himself and died in our place. As 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Through faith in what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross, we can receive forgiveness.

In summation, animal sacrifices were commanded by God so that the individual could experience forgiveness of sin. The animal served as a substitute—that is, the animal died in place of the sinner, but only temporarily, which is why the sacrifices needed to be offered over and over. Animal sacrifices have stopped with Jesus Christ. (The Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70AD, about 35 years after the crucifixion). Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrificial substitute once for all time (Hebrews 7:27) and is now the only mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). Animal sacrifices foreshadowed Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf. The only basis on which an animal sacrifice could provide forgiveness of sins is Christ who would sacrifice Himself for our sins, providing the forgiveness that animal sacrifices could only illustrate and foreshadow.

So, you may not even believe there is a God. King Soloman, probably the wisest man that ever lived, said ‘The fool, in his heart, believes there is no God’ who wants to be a fool? You have free choice, you can if you like.

One of the 12 steps of recovery from addiction recommends belief in a ‘Higher power’ millions have been released from addiction by this means.

On the other hand, of course, you are free to believe whatever you like, you might believe in fairies, ghosts, Star Wars, anything but if you believe in nothing, well, what’s left?, why are you here?

Me? I believe in Jesus who met with me in 1983 in a very powerful way, changing my whole life overnight!

Go on, ask me something.

From the moment he won the Republican nomination the press have been unremitting in presenting him as a deranged and narcissistic misogynist – a joke, whom everyone hates. While equally, since he won, those who were misguided enough to vote for him – as also, let it be said, with Brexit – are dismissed as moronic meatheads without two brain cells to rub together; who clearly for the future ought to be prevented from voting.!!

Subject: Re: United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 – (WB)

Dear Mr Freye,

Thank you for copying me into your email to the Prime Minister about the recent UN Resolution and Israel.

The UK and like-minded countries consider each UN texts on their merits, and seek to reject language which is unbalanced and inflammatory.

It has long been Government policy that the UK does not recognise Israeli sovereignty over the territories occupied by Israel in 1967. The Government therefore does not consider the Occupied Palestinian Territories to be part of Israel, and has been consistently clear in its opposition to Israel’s occupation of East Jerusalem. Article 49(6) of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, to which Israel is a state party, prohibits an occupying power from transferring its own civilian population into occupied territory. Consequently, settlements are illegal under international law. They present an obstacle to peace and take us further away from a two-state solution. Therefore, the Government continues to urge the Israeli authorities to reverse its policy over illegal settlements. To ignore the internationally illegal settlements, which are ongoing, would be to make an exception of Israel in excusing it requirement to follow international law. This would fuel the accusations that the West does not treat the Palestinian case fairly, and act as a further recruitment tool for extremists.

The Government is clear about its position on Israeli settlements. Ultimately, every Israeli and Palestinian has the right to live in peace and security. I welcome the fact that Ministers have strongly urged all sides to take immediate steps to de-escalate the tensions and avoid actions that threaten to exacerbate the situation.

Israel, like all countries, has a legitimate right to self-defence, and the right to defend its citizens from attack. However, I also believe that Palestinians have a right to create a sovereign, independent, democratic, contiguous and viable Palestinian State, living in peace and security, side by side with Israel. Only a negotiated settlement can achieve this, and the continuation, and expansion, of the settlements only serve to incite terrorism and undermine possibility of a Palestinian state. I am afraid I cannot accept the requirement that is imposed so frequently that one is “either” a friend of “Israel” or “Palestine”. I am a friend of peace and stability for the people who live in this region, and I do not think this binary language helps secure the peace that the vast majority of people, Palestinians and Israeli, want and deserve.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

Best wishes,

Charlotte Leslie

Subject: Government responded to the petition you signed

Dear Martin Freye,

The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Stop spending a fixed 0.7 per cent slice of our national wealth on Foreign Aid”.

Government responded:

The UK’s aid commitment means we can be proud to be a country that not only meets its responsibilities to the world’s poorest, but in doing so best serves and protects its own security and interests.

The UK’s commitments on overseas aid were part of the 2015 manifesto on which the government was elected. The government is keeping its promise to the electorate, tackling global challenges in the national interest.

Britain faces a simple choice: either we wait for the problems of the world to arrive on our doorstep, or we take action to tackle them at source.

UK aid, whether it is helping to prevent deadly diseases like Ebola from coming to the UK from West Africa, or enabling Syrian refugees and other would-be migrants to stay in their home region, is about creating a more stable and secure world.

Over the last five years, UK aid has been life-saving and life-changing for millions of the poorest people around the world. We have supported 11 million children through school. We have helped more than 60 million people get access to clean water, better sanitation and improved hygiene conditions. We are leading the global effort to save millions of girls from child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation.

UK aid is spent where it is most needed and is subject to rigorous internal and external checks and scrutiny at all stages. The UK’s aid programmes are scrutinised by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact, the International Development Select Committee and Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, and the National Audit Office. This is in addition to internal monitoring and evaluation to ensure projects stay on track and deliver value for taxpayers’ money.

The government has realigned the UK’s aid strategy, cutting wasteful programmes and making sure spending is firmly in the UK’s national interest. Alongside an increased defence budget and the UK’s world class diplomatic service, our aid programme is helping to create a more prosperous and stable world in which the UK can stand tall and flourish.

Britain’s aid strategy recognises that tackling poverty overseas means tackling the root causes of global problems that affect all of us, such as disease, migration, and terrorism. The Department for International Development is the UK’s primary channel for aid, but to respond to the changing world, more aid will be administered by other government departments, such as the Home Office, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Department of Health, and Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, drawing on their complementary skills.

The government will invest more through its aid programme to tackle the causes of instability, insecurity and conflict, and to tackle crime and corruption. DFID is already working with the Metropolitan Police, National Crime Agency, and HMRC to recover funds stolen from developing countries, and help countries build proper tax systems and robust institutions so they can stand on their own two feet.

This is an approach that works; as well as delivering humanitarian aid to crisis zones and targeting the root causes of the migration crisis, it is increasing economic prospects in fragile states to help counter extremism, and helping build our future trading partners.
